Damn the Dubai Deal Detractors; Full Speed Ahead

Author: Lance Winslow

Well it is becoming apparently obvious that the political opposition to the Dubai port deal has nothing to do with reality. The first news reports stated that a state-owned company was going to buy up six major U.S. ports. This report turned out to be totally false and started a political firestorm in the middle of a presidential visit to the Midwest and on alternative energy sources. With the president is away the political Washington D.C. mouses will play.

It is truly amazing how the media can spin a non-issue totally out of control in a matter of hours. Ports generally are run in an international way as they do business with other nations all over the world, who ship and receive products and are involved in world trade. That is how it works. If we are to single out one country and called him evil we will be doing so to our own peril. This is because we buy oil from the Middle East, so does the rest of the world. We have trade deficits as well. We need is many countries buying our products and services as possible in order to get back some of that money that our citizenry and our industry, as well as our government and military spends on foreign oil.

It is silly to think we can tell one nation that we buy so much from to kiss off and yet tell another nation that they can buy up an entire port on U.S. property. I speak of China in the port buy in California. I do recall some opposition to that at the time, but the deal went through.

Now we have Dubai wishing to run some of the operations of our port after buying up the British company that has been doing the same thing for almost a century. It seems rather interesting as world money flows go, to deny that things are changing and new nations are emerging as bigger players. After all that is the history of human civilizations. For those Dubai deal detractors who are more concerned with fear tactics and politics, I say to you; stick to things that you understand and stop complaining about those things that you have no clue about. Consider this in 2006.
