Window Blinds Explained

Author: Charles Amith

If you are looking for a way to cover your windows without blocking all of the light, then you will want to consider window blinds. The term, "window blinds," refers to many different kinds of window coverings, including the ones that are discussed below.

Venetian Blinds
This kind of blind is one of the most common blinds available. They were originally composed of wide metal slats that were curved, but they can now be found in flat, elliptical, or even curved shapes.

Faux or PVC
This particular kind of blind is made from a type of plastic that is very durable and holds up well to sunlight, moisture, and humidity. They are easy to take care of, too. They have been benefits, but they also have some drawbacks, too.

A few of the drawbacks is that they only come in a few white toned color choices, as well as some wood tone colors. If you need a color, then you may not be able to locate it in PVC blinds. Another drawback is that the slats are heavy. This becomes a problem if you have a larger window, because it will be difficult to raise and lower the blinds.

Composite Blinds
Composite blinds are somewhat new in the department of window treatments. They are created from a composition of polymers and wood products. They are smooth to the touch from either a coating or a solid composite construction.

The selection of colors is small in composite blinds too. There are a few faux wood tones and white tones, but other colors are not available as yet. They are in the middle of the price range, so they will meet almost anyone's budget.

Wood Blinds
You can find wood blinds in almost any price range. The lower priced wood blinds are composed of Oriental hardwood, while the quality blinds are made of basswood or another American hardwood.

If you have stained wood trim or cabinets then you may want to consider wood blinds in a shade that will match your stain color. This will bring the whole decor of the room together and make it look warm and inviting. The downside of wood blinds is that they are more expensive than other blinds and they are prone to warping and fading. Keep these things in mind if you are interested in purchasing wood blinds.

Window blinds are a great choice for any home. They offer you versatility in being able to open and close them and will meet almost anyone's budget. All you have to do is choose which ones that you want and need for your home.
